It is not only actors and musicians who get to attend awards ceremonies. Fair enough, they get to attend the year’s most talked-about events in the entertainment industry, but there are plenty more ceremonies attended by the likes of you, me, and other non-celebrities.
Whether it is a ceremony at the night or a party, or an industry awards ceremony in which your business is up for a prize, most of us will attend at least one awards night in our lives.
Although not quite as glamorous as the Oscars, the larger part of awards ceremonies is flashy occasions, to which people are expected to arrive in formal dress. They are often held in hotel conference suites, historical venues, or restaurants. This means they are never cheap to attend.
Included in the price of a ticket at most ceremonies you will get a meal, a set amount of drinks, and entertainment such as live music and a late-night disco.
So what does one wear to such a special occasion?
Women’s Formal Dress Ideas
Women should seek inspiration from what has been spotted on the red carpet, but by all means, should not feel obliged to follow suit. Celebrities get designer outfits thrown at them for free because there is no better publicity than a star papped in your gown at one of the year’s biggest events. But for those of us with lower incomes, designer outfits are often out of reach.
Mid-end designer clothing can be bought at discount retailers both on the high street and online but they cannot be depended on to have the right sizes. Your best bet is to traipse around the shops for a few days.
Some of the most noticeable night party ceremony outfits over the years have featured quirky design elements like feathers and semi-precious jewels. Look for sleeveless dresses with an embellished corset to imitate the look.
Fitted skirt and top
If you have a plain skirt, you can team it up with a satin top, a high bun, and some statement pieces. This is a good look that will fetch many compliments.
Dark-colored co-ord sets
Favorite colors are reds, blues, and classic black when it comes to investing in a co-ord set for a night party. White is also quite big but is not the most practical choice if the event involves food and drinks.
Shimmer or bling dress
If you choose a dress with a lot of bling, team it with simple shoes. Patent leather heels are a popular choice. Alternatively, if you have opted for a simple dress, jazz it up with sparkly or embellished shoes.
Night parties especially like dinners have James Bond often the preferred style. A party is a great reason to invest in a timeless classic. Fitted blazers and smoking jackets are also favorites.
Celebrities tend to experiment with trouser and jacket shapes and fabrics. A trendy, contemporary style is the drop crotch formal trouser that is young and cool.
If you are adventurous, choose trousers and a jacket in different colors like black and dark red.
Go all out by choosing a jacket with a front chest pocket that you can adorn with a folded handkerchief in a vibrant tone to brighten up your dark attire.
Shoes should always be leather. The patent is a great formal look.
